Another Scamp

Dear all,

Would like to share with another scamp, where I exprienced it myself. It just happened two days ago (27.06.07).

During my lunch hour, I received a sms that read like this :

"Dear ms chin congratulations you have won a trip for 2 nights stay at kuala lumpur hilton this weekend. You also have a food voucher of rm 2000. Thank you for being our esteem customer. Maxis".

Sounds interesting rite? Especially the rm2000 food voucher! Well, your friend me ignore this sms, cause I know where got such thing one!, i wont be a such lucky winner and if its genuine sure maxis will give us their contact number to call them. Guess what, after about 5 mins, the person who send me this sms start to call me. From the way this person speaks, he is a local people who speak bahasa with me, sounds like malay guy who speak bahasa and also sounds like chinese who speak fluent bahasa, anyway its not important. Then in the coversation, he ask :

'Hello, ms chin, you ada terima sms yang saya hantar kat u tadi? my answer is i cant make it for this weekend (in malay). then he ask again. Jadi macam mana, cancelled? I said yes, unless u allow me to postpone to next weekend. Then he said, 'boleh, tawaran ini hanya sampai weekend in saja".

So i end the conversation. Then I share this incident with my colleagues and let her read the sms, after that she said, ask the guy to courier you the food voucher. (looks like the rm2000 do catch our eyes.....hahahaha, am sure you will think the same way too, but i din do so during the conversation....in mind its must be another scamp n i dun wish to get caugh in involve in it). I do let two of my colleagues and one friend of mine know about this sms. Guess what, all the 3 also tell me the same answer - 'Ask them to courier you the food voucher'. Well, good point n i thought why not, if its genuine and true then we can share among ourselves rm 2000 voucher, will be enuf for us to share these food voucher. So i call this person via my handphone...his number is +6017-5526125, guess what he din answer my call and cut the line.(1st suspicious point) So I know tat this is another scamp.....so i informed my fren and ask her whether we should continue to find out the truth or just let it be. She said lets go ahead to see what this guy is up to.

Well to my surprise he return my call by sms, 'yes ms chin, wat can we do for you?"

So I reply by, asking question like, how i can win tis and which company u are from? and can you send me the food voucher? His reply was, 'you were recommended to us by our highly valued platinum member mr chan. we are from hilton international usa'. (the 1st sms end with maxis, and now its hilton international usa. (2nd suspicious point) Then i continue to ask, which mr chan as i knw so many mr chan, his sms reply was, 'mr chan from kl', hahaha, then i reply' i knw so many mr chan from kl, and will send you the voucher if you give me your address' Then i ask again may i knw which mr chan. I tried hard to get him to tell me which mr chan he is refering to.... finally, he send me another sms ' we need yr add n nric, as for mr chan we need to get his permission before we can send the details. Thank you'.

I din reply this sms, he then send me another sms to chase for my add details. Then I make my second attemp to call the number again to find out how true all these was, this person din pick the call and again he cut the line. I sent sms to ask the company name, phone number and person in charge for this issue. At the same time I also ask for mr chan details again. In the sms I do mentioned that i need all these to verify how genuine this issue was.

Then there is no reply from this person at all until now. Well, those people out there have so many style of tricks to trap people to believe them. Becareful, be alert and if you receive any sms that make you have doubts, please tell at least one person whom u think can give u advise what to do. Again, never give your NRIC, Credit Card number (especially the last 3 digits) and anything that allow stranger come to you.

Yours Truly,

Leannie
