Kilim Geoforest Park
Only after the last tree has been cut down;
Only after the last fish has been caught;
Only after the last river has been poisoned;
Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.

The Agony of Wildboar's Tick

(c) Forest Ang

.....the itchiness is a torment, an agony, the truth of forest exploring..........

wildboar tick
The size of the tick as compare with the fingernail.

They called it wildboar's lice. Some called it tick. John called it no-see-em. I called it "sua too sat". Whatever the names, these minute little creatures inflict much damage to outdoor enthusiasts.

My first encounter with wildboar's lices was my exploratory hike to Pantai Kerachut from the uncharted back route. I can recall when I landed at the beach, my whole body started to itch. I scratched and scratched. It was so nice to scratch that even "saliva can drop"!!

The next day, while working, I was still scratching. My armpits were affected too. I took a look at one of my armpit and was curious to see many minute black spots. I used my nail to scratch on it. Ooph! the black thing moved. I picked it up. It moved again. On closer look, I could see that it had 6 legs. An insect.

Red patches appeared. Several hours later, little blisters appeared. They were very itchy. I could scratch until the watery liquid broke.

I had sleepless night. I used the hot air from a hairdryer to blow on it.

I went to a skin specialist and was told I was infected with chicken pot!! I had to argue with him that these were lices. I was given antibiotic and some cream to apply.

The medicine did not cure.

I tried vinegar. I tried corn remover. I tried iodine. I tried many others. Nothing seemed to cure. Nothing at all.

For several years, there were no immediate cure. Each bite took about 3 months for the itchiness to subside. For bite at my feet, it took longer period as they were more prone to infection. Sores appeared. More problems. More mental torment.

Then, I remembered how a doctor took away a little growth from my hand with a cautery device. And the idea came to me. I went to a few clinics but none has that equipment. I had to see the skin specialist again. He reluctantly used the cautery set to burn the bites. And mind you I was charged RM75 for 28 shocking burns! It was a lot of money for me. And a treatment the doctor never tried before.

It cured. The itchiness stop immediately. The burnt scars heal in a week. I was completely cure in a week after the treatment.

I bought a set myself and had been practising cautery for many years. It is the ultimate cure.

At one time, I encountered with a ring-like patches after the bite. I read that the bite by ticks could caused lyme disease. But the burnt by the cautery set immediately returned my skin to normal beige. It cured. It was immediate.

I would say it is the mother of all treatment for ticks' bites - the cautery set.

Don't Worry
In my years of experience, not many people are allergic to the tick's bites. I know my partner, Jungle, is not affected by the bites. I always had the bites but he NEVER. For every 10 people, I would correctly predict that only 1 person who is allergic. Are you?
