Only after the last tree has been cut down;
Only after the last fish has been caught;
Only after the last river has been poisoned;
Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.

Snake Bite

by Forest Ang

......What to do if you are 3 days to the nearest help.....

A lady was bitten by a viper at Gunung Tahan (a real situation) It is 2 days and one night to the nearest base camp. So what must you do? "SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY" that is exactly what a first aid book says.

No, you don't have time. Yes, you have to improvise.

Twenty years ago, you can use your mouth to suck out the poison. Unless of cause you don't have any open wound in your mouth.

What you should do:

  1. Identify the snake if possible. Is it poisonous? If unsure, regard all snakes as poisonous.
  2. Cut open the clothing to expose the open wound.
  3. Use the suction pump. See picture
  4. Pump out the poison.
  5. Soak clear the poison.
  6. Continue sucking the poison for several time.
  7. Treat wound.

Of course the best is still to see a doctor.

Take care!
