Only after the last tree has been cut down;
Only after the last fish has been caught;
Only after the last river has been poisoned;
Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.

......If you are young and healthy, there is no reason you are ill.....

I was on a guided tour to China.

At a stopover, we were shown the traditional medication of China. A chicken had its leg broken but not separated at the joint. The leg was twisted back and had it wraped with supposedly traditional medicine. The chicken walked again. Some applauded.

A lady had her hand burnt with hot iron. You can see the suffering on her face. The wound was smeared with the ointment. No result was seen immediately. Pity the poor lady.

Then in the midst of all the happenings, I was suddenly being pinpointed by the sinseh that I had some kind of illness as shown on my face. He told me that we share the same mother tongue, and perhaps the same ancestors. We suddenly became "Chin lang"(relative in hokkien dialect). I was sweet talked into believing him. That was the introduction.

I was told I had some liver problem. And to show the truth, he will do the chi kung to extract the "poison" from my body. He told me that it was free because we were from the same stock, remember?

He used his right hand, grasping the three fore fingers together and put it over his mouth. He mumbled something and in a quick motion, used the three fore fingers to touch my chest. He continued doing that, putting the fingers on his mouth, then on my chest. Each time assuring me that it won't hurt. Of course it didn't hurt until....

Somehow, in the middle of the quick movements of up and down of his hand, prickling sensation were felt. It was a needle prickling. I could felt it. The needle was from his mouth which he had concealed. He continued to prick and I continued being pricked. He assured me it won't hurt. But I was.

Then he stopped. Telling me that he will suck out the black blood from the liver. He uses the suction pump. He pressed it on my chest and started to pump. Sure enough, dark blood came oozing out from the pricked wound.

"There you see, your poison is being suck out now", he said. He told me there were more of the poison in my liver and that I should take medication to cure my ailment.

The cost? Well, it was about RM1.2K for the whole package of pills. Mind you, a lot of money at that time. A big scam...

I knew the scam. I refused to buy. He started telling about bad things might happened to me. About liver failure and about poisonous blood and diseases. Some sort of cursing....

So, my fellow travellers, there are many scams and be aware of such. Always be alert and use your common sense. Ask yourself, I am young, I am healthy, I don't have history of liver ailment - so how can that be....?

(Note: With HIV, I wonder whether the needle is safe!)

Take care!
