Only after the last tree has been cut down;
Only after the last fish has been caught;
Only after the last river has been poisoned;
Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.

Nothing Goes To Waste

Forest Ang

.........We are the dirtiest creature. We throw rubbish. We discard old things. We make more rubbish!.....

rubbish spilled into the river
Rubbish being spilled into the river and then into the sea.
This picture was taken at the coastal road off Jelutong, Penang in October 2003.

Every living creature - from insects, birds, animals, bacteria and whatever they may be, work round the clock to gobble every tiny available food.

What one creature cannot use, another will eagerly gobble up.

The process of gobbling up whatever organic material helps in the production of humus. Humus is a useful nutrient for plants growth.

Given the time, nature has its own way of renewing the resources, which we called recycling.

We changed these.

We are the dirtiest creature. We throw rubbish. We discard old things. We make more rubbish! If we go for a picnic, we have to throw rubbish. If we have a new cupboard, we have to discard the old one. If we go for a hash run, we have to litter the forest floor.

And we are the most wasteful creature. At a buffet dinner, we would serve to a full plate but left so much uneaten. We buy more than we need and throw the rest that gone stale.

Not only we are dirtiest and wasteful, we are the most dangerous animals in the world! We kill for fun. We kill for joy. We kill just because of differences in policies. We kill because we like to destroy humanity.

Our cities stink. Our rivers are drains.

Big advertisements were placed about huge gabage land. Our free economy will generate more wastes. Our land are becoming scarce.

It's time to rethink. To sit back and reassess our need. To ask ourself, our deed, our wastefulness and our dangerous attitude.

What have you done to free this land of waste?
